Practical Demonkeeping
Christopher Moore's demonically seductive storylines and zany, addictive brand of humor have earned him comparisons to Carl Hiaasen, Christopher Buckley, Douglas Adams, and other comic virtuosos. He's given us lovelorn vampires, marooned love goddesses, and addled sea beasts. Now discover his ingenious debut novel, in which we meet one of the most memorably mismatched pairs in the annals of literature. the good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old ex-seminarian and "road" scholar Travis O'Hearn. This really wasn't his best book. I do like that it introduced characters and locations that show up later, but the small plot that there was dragged heavily. The humor usually found in the Chris Moore books was sparse in this book. (show less)

A good read, but definitely not his best. I can tell that this was Moore's first novel, and he's definitely just gotten better since. I didn't really get into it until about halfway through, the first half jumped around A LOT and there was really not much progression. the differing POVs were cool, but it was pointless at some times. however, once the action really started rolling, it got picked up a lot and i got into it.

Christopher Moore is just one of the funniest writers I have stumbled across. Nothing will ever compare to Lamb of course, but this was pretty good. Quick, easy, quirky and amusing. Worth the couple of hours it takes to read.
