  • This is another book for the believer's top ten list, a "must read". Sproul addresses something rarely dealt with in our congregations, namely the role that suffering plays in the Christian life. This is another book for the believer's top ten list, a "must read". Sproul addresses something rarely dealt with in our congregations, namely the role that suffering plays in the Christian life. Jesus acknowledged that we would meet with suffering in this life (Jn. 16:33); he did not try to gloss over it. Sproul helps us to examine our own lives with a goal to perceive how God is with us in our suffering. Sproul is not afraid to tackle the underlying question all believers ask - "If suffering is a given in life, then how does it align with living a life of faith?" (show less)

  • In 1993 I lost my daugther to cancer. I found in the pages of Sproul's book insight and words for reflection, and a solid reason for comfort, and how God shapes our lives through travail and suffering and refines us, turning sorrow in joy, and the darkest night into a sunrise. God uses suffering and disappointment to fashion His life in us.
