Zelazny was a master of psychadelic fiction--stories that got weirder and weirder on a whim of the author, yet retained their sense of pathos and character from cover to cover.

This story starts off odd and gets odder, and fans of Roger's writing will be able to spot the points where an off-beat thought popped into his mind and he decided to go for broke.

Zelazny was a master of psychadelic fiction--stories that got weirder and weirder on a whim of the author, yet retained their sense of pathos and character from cover to cover.

As far as Roger Zelazny's stories go, this is "light" -- the sort of piece the maestro might've turned out in a month--or a week. But like all Zelazny's fantasy and sci-fi stories, 'doorways' stands out as a reminder that an epic fiction need not be a whopping four-hundred pager in double-size format; Roger could rock your world in two hundred standard-size pages and spin a good yarn in a hundred.

Do I reccomend Doorways? Yes. It's a quick read, offbeat, weird, and fun. The only problem I have when I read it is, it makes me miss Zelazny very, very much. (show less)

Pretty good read when you're stuck in a car for a long time. I fell in love with the main character right away and quickly adapted to the odd reality of aliens, talking wombats, cryogenically frozen uncles, and doctors with no vowels in their names. As I've noticed in a couple other of Zelazny's novels, the ending wraps everything up in a whirlwind that leaves me a little dizzy, but despite that fault, it's still a great book.
