In the twenty years since its publication, Celebration of Discipline has helped over a million seekers discover a richer spiritual life infused with joy, peace, and a deeper understanding of God. For this special twentieth anniversary edition, Richard J. Foster has added an introduction, in which he shares the story of how this beloved and enduring spiritual guidebook came to be. Hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality, Celebration of Discipline explores the "classic Disciplines," or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith. Along the way, Foster shows that it is only by and through these practices that the true path to spiritual growth can be found. (show less)

I found this book to be extremely good and challenging. It makes you re-examine your own walk with God and see how you can grow. It is very encouraging but crammed full of information. Extremely well laid out and easy to read. I highly recommend it to any Christian looking to go deeper in your walk with God. I read it in three separate sittings - it is sectioned off into three sections with chapters in each section pertaining to the separate disciples. Many you will recognize as standard-issue for the Christian faith but don't be mislead. Even the disciplines you think you have down to an artwork will come alive in a new way and you will be challenged to go deeper, to a new level. The depth of insight you will gain is amazing. A great book to read with a book club or small group/Bible study. It would be ideal for prayer/accountability partners to read through together. (show less)

I had to buy this my sophomore year and I couldn't stand it. I may reread it later, but I was so bored by it, and not only did I not really learn anything, but I found myself at odds with some of the things the author says. (show less)

This is the 2nd time I'm reading this book. The first time was 10 years ago. Boy is it relevant 10 years later.

  • I read this book twice; once for interest and the other during a spiritual retreat weekend as part of a university credit. I enjoyed it both times and found it very insightful, revealing and challenging. It's a very positive book and has something for anyone no matter where you are in your life journey.
