When the body of an unknown teenage girl turns up in the cemetery in the quiet town of Bakerhaven, Police Chief Dale Harper finds himself investigating his first homicide. A baffling clue leads him to consult Bakerhaven's resident puzzle expert-his first big mistake. Soon Cora's meddling, mischief-making behavior drives Chief Harper to distraction and inspires many cross words from her long-suffering niece, Sherry. But when another body turns up in a murder that hits much closer to home, Cora must find a killer-before she winds up in a wooden box three feet across...and six down. (show less)

What a waste of a good concept. The puzzle wasn't bad, though I had figured out all the whodunnits and what-they-dones before the answers were revealed. A couple of my favorite authors said in back cover blurbs that she was a hoot, but I have never liked drunk jokes, so there was nothing funny, charming, eccentric, etc., about her. I won't bother to read more of these, but it really is a waste of a fun idea for a mystery series.... (show more)

It's very light fare but also very enjoyable. I am speeding through the series and stop to do the crosswords and acrostics immediately.
