"Different minds learn differently," writes Dr. Mel Levine, one of the best-known learning experts and pediatricians in America today. Some students are strong in certain areas and some are strong in others, but no one is equally capable in all. Yet most schools still cling to a one-size-fits-all education philosophy. As a result, many children struggle because their learning patterns don't fit the way they are being taught.

In his #1 New York Times bestseller A Mind at a Time, Dr. Levine shows parents and those who care for children how to identify these individual learning patterns, explaining how they can strengthen a child's abilities and either bypass or help overcome the child's weaknesses, producing positive results instead of repeated frustration and failure.

Consistent progress can result when we understand that not every child can do equally well in every type of learning and begin to pay more attention to individual learning patterns -- and individual minds -- so that we can maximize children's success and gratification in life. In A Mind at a Time Dr. Levine shows us how. (show less)

Fantastic book--one of the few that is equally useful for both parents and teachers. Levine always does an excellent job of taking away the stigma of a "disability" and instead showing kids on a much broader continuum of development. Aren't we all wired uniquely? (show less)

It's a good book if you want to better understand learning difficulties without the psyochological labels. While his recommendations are thoughtful and would indeed work, the way schools are structured and financed don't allow for every student to have an educational plan. I found much of it to be somewhat common sense as an educator. Also, more could have been said about how these difficulties manafest in adults and especially what to do as adults or for adult students to overcome difficulties. (show less)

This is the best book I've read (and I've read alot of them) that addresses the differences in how people learn. It's fantastic and helped me understand the students I work with, myself, and my children. I recommend it to everyone!

  • I had to read this for school but it was really good because it looked at the different types of learning we all have and how it affects us as we grow up and excel in the world.
