Great defense of justice. Translation is smooth reading. His discussion of how a democracy might evolve into an authoritarian regime is a little too familiar for comfort. A must read for anyone looking to complete a foundation in political science or philosophy.

"Western philosophy is just footnotes to Plato", to quote one of my political theory professors (who probably had it from somewhere else). This one has it all, built around a discussion on what an ideal state would be like. Granted, Socrates' interlocutors can be a bit sycophantic from time to time, rolling over without offering the old man enough resistance, but I guess that's what comes from being a superstar of philosophy.
