My favorite book of all time. I don't know why, exactly, but it sticks out in my mind as a great children's book. Anthropomorphic victorian era mouse gets stranded on an "island" and learns to survive alone, while thinking of his wife, family, and friends back home. While figuring out how to live in wild, he survives a terribly cold winter, reads a great war novel (written by bears), fights an enemy, and learns a lot about what is most important in life. I read this book back when I was in fifth grade for my first ever Advanced Curriculum Class. We went so in depth. Unfortunately for my teacher, Mrs. Rimby, I had already finished the book the first day she had given it to us! Once I started reading I just couldn't put it down. It's a very amusing & cute story. I really like how it was told from the perspective of an animal. This is a good children's book.

  • My fifth grade teacher gave me this book and I immediately fell in love with it. Abel is a hero that anyone can connect to. I made sure that my niece had it for her collection and will definitely get for my nephews when they are older.
