    The story is the tale of the conflict of cultures: ideas, values, and customs. Ato’s family has different values than Eulalie and Ato seems torn between the two. The conflict arises from first meetings, hospitality customs, and even issues of family-planning. Like most of Ama Ata Aidoo’s writings Dilemma of a Ghost centers around the cultural conflict mainly between African-American culture and what are deemed more ‘traditional’ cultures of Africa. The conflict arises from first meetings, hospitality customs, and even issues of family-planning. Like most of Ama Ata Aidoo’s writings Dilemma of a Ghost centers around the cultural conflict mainly between African-American culture and what are deemed more ‘traditional’ cultures of Africa. The story relates not only to those of the African Diaspora and the African continent, but also holds truth for people around the globe in this time of globalization where the world is shrinking in the sense that cultures are being forced closer and closer together or being forced to relinquish their own ideas for those of touted alleged ‘modernity’.   • gorgeous, mysterious plays by a writer too little known in the u.s. aidoo artfully complicates preconceived, essentialist notions of "africanness" and writes multifaceted roles for women.
