It is hard to imagine a more thought out "Lewis". Like many of his books, this is an elaborate read and one that should take more than just a single pass at each paragraph.
I recommend this book and would suggest that it be read slowly in order to consider what Lewis is saying.

While the cynic in me sometimes screams ‘cliché!’ at his answers, they are good; with Lewis most of what he says is about how he leads you to the answers. Somehow, taking the walk through his writing is worth more than simply being told, or given them.
In the end, anyone could say that there is a reason for everything, but few are able to set it up like Lewis does in this book and I doupth that few can make you believe it.
The problem of pain is typical Lewis, it is insightful, solid and brilliant. (show less)

This book definitely gets you thinking more deeply about reasons behind pain. One of the main points of the book being that if everything was always going well for us, we would rarely, if ever, seek God.
