Has anyone had trouble getting into this book?

I love Jodi Picoult, she is definitely my favorite author, but I cannot get into this novel. Is the whole book this way, or does it get better?

I agree, this one has been a lot harder to get into than all of her other ones, I hope it gets better. :o)

I must admit, this was the first Jodi Picoult novel I ever read, and it was not my favourite. It took me awhile before I read another and was completely blown away by her.

I also agree, it took me waaaayyyy too long to get into the book. However at the end it was okay... definately not one of my favorites though.

You know, Jodi Picoult is my favorite author right now, but this book just ...wasn't good. It took more than half the book to get even somewhat interesting...and by then I just didn't care. It is the only one of her books that I wouldn't recommend.

i also had trouble getting into this book.... i still thought it was good but ... i duno, i felt like.. from the other gazillion jodi picoult books i've read this one seems more mature? i don't know... i think they all appeal to a variety of people but this one just seemed different. not my favourite, but still a good read once you do get in to it.

This is one of my favourite Jodi books, though I did find it difficult keeping up with the characters initially. Well worth keeping at it and savouring the story. :)

I felt a bit confused at the beginning as well. I had trouble keeping the characters straight, but as the book went on things fell into place.
      Great story!

This book was hard to get into... all the different stories that didn't seem to connect. But once they did, it was amazing. Loved it in the end.

Admittedly, it is hard to get into this one. But it is also so incredibly worth it. This is an amazing book with its astonishing surprise at the end. A must read Picoult!! Perserve all ye who read.

I know this was posted a year ago, but for anyone still needing the info, I agree that this was very hard to get into at first. I love Piccoult, but this has been my least favorite book of hers so far. It is worth the reading, though. It does get better about half way in, and things tie together as they always do in her books.

I had the same problem with this book! I ended up puting it down and trying it again later and I realized it's actually a good book. I think my problem was opening my mind to the subject matter.

I started reading it, couldn't seem to get into it, so opted for "plain truth" by her,, and am now reading "salem falls", and still havn't gone back to that book. It is at the bottom of my Jodie Picoult book pile....

I also had a hard time getting into this one.. and have read several of her other books that grab you right away. Hang in there, I didn't get hooked until about half way, but it is intriguing and thought provoking from that point on. I really had to make myself stay with it.
