After his groundbreaking book Getting the Love You Want, Hendrix has developed a brilliant, thought-provoking, and innovative self-help program for single people who yearn for the pleasures and rewards of a loving, long-lasting union. As seen on Oprah, here is the New York Times bestseller for singles looking to find and keep the love of their lives.

There aren't many relationship/love books that I could suggest to others knowing that they would help them understand themselves and develop a meaningful relationship, but this is the one. This is more of a workbook in that it presents his theories (which is mixed Freud and Jung analytical psychotherapy) and asks the reader to do various exercises in hopes of uncovering one's "Imago," which is essentially the archetype of our true love. His theory essentially states that we all carry damage from our childhood (due to imperfect parents) and in order to feel "whole" we search for and pair up with another who can, in a sense, heal us and make us whole. It's a worthwhile read. (show less)

This book was given to me by a good family friend.

I never made it past the Introduction of this book. I think I'm just not the target audience. The man who wrote it is an ultra traditional type, and the gist of the introduction is "Sure, being single is fun, but deep down inside we all fundamentally are incomplete unless we're married." I have a lot of single mommy friends that take offense at that line of reasoning (particularly coming from a dude).

To be fair, it came highly recommended, so I'm sure it has some redeeming values. But you won't find them in my review. (show less)

  • Not at all what you expect from the title. It is a deep dive into you as a person. How you came to be from past influences of family, school, environment. Also parts that force you to look inward and also asks questions outwardly from those who are close to you. If you want to understand your present self, this is a good book, but must do the work

  • This book transformed me but not before it broke me down.... WOW! Amazing and a must for self-exploration and coming to terms with the Universe within!

    Exercises

Started to do the exercises when I realized it would be easier to do them on my computer in some of the programs I have for brainstorming. Due to the lack of drawing skills on my part an the ease of editing on my PowerBook, that'd be best.

I've been slow to tackle them but I guess it's just nervous hesitance on my part. Maybe it's my "Old Brain" making me procrastinate!
