I read this book while on a trip to Morocco. It took me quite a while to get into - but once I did I came to love getting lost in Bowles' words and lyrical style. His observations of Morocco and the Moroccan people are brilliant and yet so subtle and right on... a must read for anyone interested in Morocco.

I really liked this book - it's similar to The Sheltering Sky, but the historical significance of the uprising is very informative since Americans rarely hear about anything of Muslim Africa.
