As this enthralling epic nears its climax, the young heroine’s brother discovers his own hidden gift — and the role he must play in battling the Dark.

Hem is a weary orphan whose struggle for survival ends when he is reunited with his lost sister, Maerad. But Maerad has a destiny to fulfill, and Hem is sent to the golden city of Turbansk, where he learns the ways of the Bards and befriends a mysterious white crow. When the forces of the Dark threaten, Hem flees with his protector, Saliman, and an orphan girl named Zelika to join the Light’s resistance forces. It is there that Hem has a vision and learns that he, too, has a part to play in Maerad’s quest to solve the Riddle of the Treesong. As THE CROW continues the epic tale begun with THE NAMING and THE RIDDLE, Alison Croggon creates a world of astounding beauty overshadowed by a terrifying darkness, a world where Maerad and Hem must prepare to wage their final battle for the Light. I really didn't like Hem's viewpoint. In the first two books I grew really attatched to both Maerad and Cadvan. And then the fact that the end of the book revealed that Hem's struggles were pretty much in vain kind of ruined it for me. I do like Irk, though. :) (show less)

A great book. I honestly didn't like that it was all about Maerad's brother, I prefer it being only about Maerad and her hardship and chanlleges. I'm pretty bummed that the final will be mostly about Hem's point of view rather than Maerad's unfortunetly. But other than that negative feel, this book was good. It linked a lot of what has been happening in the first two books. I Can Not Wait for the Last Book. It had Better Be a Smashing Great Finish.

Having been very eager to continue Maerad's epic, I was really disappointed to find that this didn't involve her at all. Hem's narration irritated me for the most part, and this book was a very slow read. It wasn't until the book was almost over that i started to get into the story at all, and then the ending turned out a huge disappointment. Hem was not that likable of a character for me, and neither was Zelika - Saliman and even Irc were much more appealing, but they turned out as pretty... (show more)

Hem's narration irritated me for the most part, and this book was a very slow read. It wasn't until the book was almost over that i started to get into the story at all, and then the ending turned out a huge disappointment. Hem was not that likable of a character for me, and neither was Zelika - Saliman and even Irc were much more appealing, but they turned out as pretty minor characters - and I'd really gotten attached to Maerad and Cadvan. I'm hoping The Singing will focus more on Maerad and her point of view. The Crow was mainly a disappointment - a ton of the storyline felt completely unnecessary -, and in the last book I'm definitely hoping for a resurfacing the gripping narrative I enjoyed so much in the first two books. I'm holding out for a spectacular finale! (show less)
