Drinking: A Love Story
Fifteen million Americans a year are plagued with alcoholism. Five million of them are women. Many of them, like Caroline Knapp, started in their early teens and began to use alcohol as "liquid armor," a way to protect themselves against the difficult realities of life. In this extraordinarily candid and revealing memoir, Knapp offers important insights not only about alcoholism, but about life itself and how we learn to cope with it.

i generally like memoirs, but i only found this one to be so-so. i related to the subject and the author more than i would like to admit, but i found the style of writing a bit challenging. she jumped around so much, which can be fine but for me it wasn't done in a way i enjoyed. the style was perfect for the subject, the journey through alcoholism and into recovery is definitely not linear, and the writing style contributes to demonstrating what can be a very winding path. i'm glad i read it... A great story about a lady who describes a story with alcohol entwined with her everyday life. A really good read and just shows how a love affair can not only be with another person but also with a thing.
