“For your joy and Christ’s honor, I commend this book to you. It is realistic, practical, and hope-giving.”

John Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church , Minneapolis

“A beautiful blend of grace and truth. Joshua Harris raises high standards of holiness while carefully avoiding legalism. I highly recommend it.”

Randy Alcorn , bestselling author of The Treasure Principle and The Purity Principle

“I am very encouraged that my longtime friend Josh Harris has written a book about lust. May God use this book to keep many from allowing their minds to become ‘the devil’s playground.’”

Rebecca St. James, singer/songwriter

Story Behind the Book

“I was preparing a message on lust when I realized that the book I wanted to consult hadn’t been written. That book would make it clear that only Jesus Christ can free us from the hopeless treadmill of shame and guilt that so many well-intentioned people end up on. It would instill a love for holiness and a hatred for sin without dragging the reader’s imagination through the gutter. And it would be for both men and women, because I’ve learned that lust isn’t just a guy problem—it’s a human problem.”

This book does a wonderful job of approaching sexual lust as not only a huge problem, but that of an even bigger problem: our rebellious heart that lusts after sin instead of God. The issue of sexual lust is an issue of holiness and whether or not one is growing in it. This book is written for both girls and guys, and it does a wonderful job of showing the similarities and differences in lustful struggles. I highly recommend this book for anyone to read.

The issue of sexual lust is an issue of holiness and whether or not one is growing in it. This book is written for both girls and guys, and it does a wonderful job of showing the similarities and differences in lustful struggles. I highly recommend this book for anyone to read.

There are many challenging statements that are made that really make you do some self-analysis and there are many statements that bring you to the Savior's cross in appreciation for taking your lustful sin upon his own body.

I attached the table of contents:

Part One: The Truth About Lust

1. Not Even a Hint: Why can't I seem to beat lust?
2. Sex is Not the Problem: Is it biology or is it a sin?
3. You Can't Save Yourself: Where can I find the power to change?

Part Two: In the Thick of the Battle

4. A Custom-Tailored Plan: Where am I weakest and what can I do?
5. Guys and Girls: How are we different, and how can we help each other?
6. Self-Centered Sex: How do I deal with masturbation?
7. Half a Poison Pill Won't Kill You: How do I cope with the temptations of media?

Part Three: Strategies for Long-Term Change

8. Lone Rangers Are Dead Rangers: Why is accountability so important?
9. The Power of a Promise: How can truth help me defeat the lies?
10. Holiness is a Harvest: How can I sow to the Spirit? (show less)

No, it's a flop!

I can't say I liked this book very much. It really didn't give me any information I could use frequently.

This book is what I call a "Passion of the Christ" thing: you don't want to read it, it's horrible torture reading it because it tears you apart with the knowledge of your sin, but ultimately, it's good that you've read it. I could've read this book in an hour or two, but it took me a couple of weeks to get through it. That's right, it was that hard for me to read it. It was the spiritual equivalent of someone slowly sawing through my neck. But it's definitely exposed sin in me. Fo... (show more)

I could've read this book in an hour or two, but it took me a couple of weeks to get through it. That's right, it was that hard for me to read it. It was the spiritual equivalent of someone slowly sawing through my neck. But it's definitely exposed sin in me. For me, it wasn't so much lust per se, but what I was doing to fight lust. I've been pretty lazy about fighting it for a while; with God's grace, I'll be more diligent.
Like I was saying before, this isn't a book that you sit down and read for fun; but I would encourage you to pick it up if you want to fight lust. (show less)

Best book for men on this subject that I have read thus far.

Deals with the subject honestly without graphic language, and constantly brings everything back to the Gospel.

Questionable book recommendation at the end, but a person can benefit a lot from this book.
