Piper has provided the church with a radically God-centered, Christ-exalting, and Biblical perspective of the purpose and motivation for missions. Beginning with God's passion for His own glory, Piper demonstrates (with much Scriptural support) that the goal of missions is to glorify God through the worship and satisfaction of all nations in Christ.

Piper offers chapters in the book that focus on God's work in missions through worship, prayer, and suffering, revealing the truth from Scripture that God's sovereign hand works in these ways to proclaim the Gospel to the nations and bring glory to Himself.

The most encouraging part of the book, however, is Piper's concentration on the fact that Revelation 5:9 will come to fruition. People from every tribe and nation and people and tongue will be gathered around the throne in heaven offering praise to Jesus Christ. God's purposes cannot be thwarted, and His message will not be silenced. God is working to exalt the name of Christ by gathering people from every nation to be His children. And He is spreading His Gospel of grace through His church, His bride, all of whom are called to take part in the grace-empowered work of missions. (show less)

The best book that I have ever read concerning missions is John Piper’s, Let the Nations Be Glad! The Supremacy of God in Missions. He begins the book with a simple phrase, and its presence goes on to perpetrate, permeate, and dominate the entirety of the book: “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is.” Mr. Piper’s exaltation of God as the Supremely Sovereign Creator, who is enthralled in His complete righteousness is both breathtaking and soul reviving. Piper, in usua... (show more)

Piper, in usual fashion explains that God must desire only that which is righteous, and since righteousness, that which is pure, is Him alone, then He must desire himself to remain righteous. And buttressed along side this causality of God is the truth that: “God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in him.” Additionally, there is in this book, as well as his others, a manifestation of Piper’s passion in the way that he lives life, and he expounds on this thesis that one should make: “The Supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ” their own personal aim as well. • Piper's passionate plea for missions to be of utmost importance is incredibly biblicaly based. A must read for every follower of Christ. Especially those who are not going to serve on the field.
