What is the best Cormac McCarthy book ever written?

I only have read The Road so I need to go into any other books to decide...

I also have only read The Road.... awesome book. But earlier I read a review for McCarthy's book The Crossing that has me ready to head out to the book store/ library to find it ASAP. Maybe I'll update with another review when I read it too.

Outer Dark was recommended to me. I have since read it, and find it to be one of the best and most disturbing novels I've ever read. An amazing read, but not for the weak of heart. I also loved The Road. I have been told that Blood Meridian is great too. Next up for me are All the Pretty Horses and No Country for Old Men.

Blood Meridian is pretty bad ass. It's McCarthy's writing at its best. I've heard good things about Child of God too.

The Orchard Keeper was my first, and still my favorite. The Border Trilogy was pretty good, too, though I don't remember which I liked the best. Blood Meridian is gross at times, so it was a bit hard to read. All of the books I've read by McCarthy are great though.

I am listening to my first Cormac McCarthy book now, The Road. I have to say it is captivating.

Blood Meridian is one of the best books I have ever read. Brilliant description, brilliant story. I would definetly recommend it.

The Crossing. It's really not even close with any other, as good as they are.

What a hard choice. Blood Meridian was the first McCarthy book I read, and it was hypnotic. Suttree also knocked me out, as did All the Pretty Horses. But if I had to pick just one it would be The Road.

Although I haven't read Suttree, I think Blood Meridian is McCarthy's best book.

I've only read two of his books. No Country for Old Men was a fantastic examination of violence in modern society. The my favorite to date, was a devastating profile of the human spirit persisting even in the complete absence of hope. Do these constitute McCarthy's best work? After reading the previous reviews, I'll reserve judgment until I have had the chance to read more of his work.

For me, it's got to be All the Pretty Horses. I love that book.

Either Suttree or Blood Meridian. I can't quite decide.

McCarthy's best book is "Blood Meridian," but it isn't saying much. It's like arguing over which is Brendan Fraser's best acting role.

Hee hee! (That would be "The Quiet American.") As for McCarthy, Blood Meridian is his best; but, I still stand by Child of God. The Road is his most accessible.

Suttree. No question about it. As good as all his books are, this is the one that completely blew me away when I read it.

The Orchard Keeper is my current favorite - but I also loved The Crossing. (And ALL the Pretty Horses)...(and The Road)...(and NO COuntry for Old Men). (Oh, hell, the man is just a genius!
