The lies Christian women believe are at the root of their struggles. In Lies Women Believe, Nancy Leigh DeMoss exposes areas of deception common to many Christian women -- lies about God, sin, priorities, marriage and family, emotions, and more. She deals honestly with women's delusions and illusions and then gently leads them to the truth of God's word that leads to true freedom.

This book helped me see how women (and even men!) - but especially the people of God- believe the deception of the world without even realizing it, and unknowingly end up living captives of unhelpful thoughts. I recommend this book for any woman- and any man - because the book is carefully researched and written to lead people to God. It's not a cure all or a self-help -- it's end result is the same as any good bible commentary - to inform you, help you know God, and to tell you how to recognize truth in all God's gentleness. I am glad to have found this author and this book and I think she is answering her call to minister to others with God's blessing. (show less)

Overall, the book has some very practical principles concerning areas of life that women (and all Christians for that matter) find to be a struggle. I really appreciated the first chapter on lies about God, and I also appreciated the overall points of the rest of the book. The only negative comment I would make is that some of the points that are made are extra-Biblical and not always addressed as such.So it seemed as though law was being added to the gospel, which I did not like. (DeMoss in the intro does admit parts of the book would be controversial and open to disagreement). Overall, not a bad read. I would not recommend it to any one new to Christianity, however, I think it could be beneficial to someone who can discern opinion from scripture. (show less)

  • ugh! I just couldn't finish this book! The book has good points about the lies that we, as women, believe but the author does a terrible job explaining the truth in light of scripture. I got about halfway and then just couldn't take her twisting of scripture. Here is an example, she explaining why women seeking work outside the home had led to societies woes using Genesis 2:18 "Her life was to center on his [husband], not his on hers. She was made from the man, made for the man, and... (show more)

  • We have been lied to and we have been deceived. This book shares the many deceptions that we believe in our society today. The steps of bondage mentioned in the book were listening to a lie, dwelling on the lie, believing the lie, and then acting on the lie. At the end of each chapter there was a list of the lies/deceptions mentioned in the chapter, and then followed by a list of the Truth. This book helped to remind me of how selfish I am and how much easier it is to give into lies and sin ... (show more)

I'm thankful for people like Nancy Leigh Demoss who stand for truth when it is far from popular. It's by God's grace that we can discern what is deception and what is true! (show less)
