I love serial killer books, because I love how forensic scientist can take the smallest clue and tie it to the killer. So because I read ALOT of this type of books I thought I would enjoy this series. NOT! First of all, if little ole me can see when a piece of evidence is 'overlooked', I cannot get my mind around the fact that the coroner - a woman who is best in her field - would miss it. Not only that, but it was something that I don't think even a mediocre coroner would overlook. So when the author used that piece of evidence as the thing that was going to wrap up the case ..... kinda ruined it for me.
Also, he went overboard with afflicting the main character with doom and gloom. Sure it is realistic to think that she might have received some very bad news about her future health, but then to take that and say okay, now you will fall in love, even though you think you will die shortly, and then we will kill off your new found boyfriend. I think he was killed off so the girls could go on with the next all female murder club series without a guy interfering with them. Too much. (show less)

I really like series books and I've heard people carry on about James Patterson, so I decided to pick up the first one and try it on. I can tell you the thing I REALLY liked is 3-5 page chapters. Really makes you feel like you are making progress. I appreciated that we saw the coming together of the 4 women, instead of it just already being that way, except in Jill's case, I thought it was a little speedy for a savvy lawyer to get involved. I appreciated that we saw the coming together of the 4 women, instead of it just already being that way, except in Jill's case, I thought it was a little speedy for a savvy lawyer to get involved. The story was a little gruesome, but I guess that is what murder is all about. I kept thinking I had it all figured out, but didn't quite until right up to the end. I really think it sucks, though, to have a love interest killed off in the very first book, though I must admit that is better than 5 books in. That would have really upset me. All and all a very involving story. It sucks you right in due to the tragic nature of the killings. Nothing like dashed hopes to get you interested. (show less)

I have only read a couple of James Patterson's books and I have really enjoyed them. I have decided to take on The Women's Murder Club Series and after making it through the first book, I really liked it. I am ready to start reading the next book in this series, Second Chance. I thought that First to Die was a great story. The characters are very likeable and it is written with such description so that it is easy to feel what they are feeling. I thought that First to Die was a great story. The characters are very likeable and it is written with such description so that it is easy to feel what they are feeling. The main character, Lindsay, goes through an emotional ride and she pulls you along. I would definitely recommend this series if you like a good mystery or thriller. The twist and turns of the story will keep you glued to it until the end of the book. You have to make it to the last page to get the whole story. The closer I got to the end I could not put it down!
