I picked it up at a garage sale 3-4 years ago - It wasn't what I was expecting but I have read it twice now

I agree it was an amazing read! Stephenson's depth of knowledge astounds me , while still having such amazing characters! You should try reading Diamond Age, that is another amazing book by Stephenson!
Steve Blanchette about 1 year agoGet your hands on the "Baroque-cycle" and his psychopatic drive for details and character/situation development will blow your head off...TWICE...

Facebook-användare about 1 year agoI've found the book to be in dire need of an editor with a red pen. Cut it down! I'm not engaged after these 100's and 100's of pages. My interest ebbs and flows - it's taken me months to get to the last 100 pages. I really wouldn't recommend the book. I'm just not sure if I care enough about the characters and really don't "get it." I liked Snow Crash and really wanted to like this book - it just didn't happen.
Facebook-användare about 1 year agoHaving read the baroque cycle I can say with no reservations that this man is a genius and deserves
to win the nobel prize -
i have read them 3 times each - and they are so lavish you would never get tired of reading them
I believe that the Cryptpmynicom carries on the story of the descentants of the characters in the baroque cycle
Facebook-användare about 1 year agoSerioulsy anyone who loves literature and history needs to read these books
This is a page turner full of interesting historical facts plus brilliant speculation about the future. Best book ever, with the possible exception of his Baroque Cycle.
Ralph Crawford about 1 year agoI really loved Cryptonomicon, but am finding it difficult to stay engaged with the Baroque cycle. Still, Stephenson ~is~ a genius. The Diamond Age and omfgwtfbbq Snow Crash were equally fantastic. I recommend William Gibson to any fans of Stephenson.
Reed Arrakis Williams about 1 year agoDefinitely one of my favorite books ever.
I thought he was a great writer before this book came out, but this book... this book.
This book he departs from the mainstream novel and enters Epic territory.
When I started reading this book the only time I put it down was when I was working, it's a good thing I didn't have any kids yet, or there would have been some neglect going on(j/k).
As the topic says, it's a really good book, I only wish I could get everyone on the planet to read it. It baffles me that there are folks saying they can't stay focused for it. The little details and the tiny side stories make it so real(the story of the impacted tooth is gold). It's only a little over 900 pages or so, it's not War and Peace, or the Bible, it's better.
Facebook-användare about 1 year agoI'm still plodding on to finish it,it's interesting but it's too long.
Phil Joseph Torreon 4 months agoCryptonomicon is definitely one of my all-time favorites. First book of Stephenson's I ever read, so I was hooked right out of the gate. As for the baroque series, I've also read Quicksilver, but as with any tomes of this magnitude, I'll take mine in swallowable doses. I do plan on reading the entire series at some point, but gotta interleave other works for balance and sanity.
I'm trying to figure out what a novel written by Neal Stepheson, Ken Follett, Conn Iggulden and Carl Hiassen would look like. Perhaps close to 1,000 pages, historical fiction, definite satire and wit, laced heavily with a suspenseful plot full of technology beyond our imagination. What the heck, let's throw William Gibson into the mix while we're at it.
