Katie Wilkinson'sboyfriend Matt dumps her; not a total cad, he leaves her a gift, a diary kept bySuzanne, his first wife, for their son Nicholas. Though it's not exactly thediamond ring Katie was hoping for, she's unable to make herself destroy thediary--against her better judgment, Katie begins to read.Drawn against her will into the other woman's world, Katie learns of physicianSuzanne's heart attack at age 35 and her decision to slow down, accomplished bya move to Martha's Vineyard and a new job as a simple country doctor. When lovecomes knocking, in the form of housepainter-cum-poet Matt Harrison, Suzanne isready to listen to her newly repaired heart. Though painful for Katie, shebegins to know and like Suzanne and her infant son Nicholas. Suzanne's devotionto Matt and their son shines through, as well as her plainspoken wisdom. Whilethe journal helps Katie understand Matt, whether they can write a futuretogether remains in question. --Alison Trinkle (show less)

My uncle bought this book for my grandmother. I started reading it when I went to visit her.. I couldnt put it down but had to since I was heading home. I went and bought the book myself so I could finish reading it. I couldnt put the book down this time. I dont like to read but when I start a James Patterson book I cant stop reading.. I have 16 book of his so far and plan on buying the rest... James Patterson is an awesome writer and kept me on the edge of my seat.. This book is sad and was hard to follow at first but all made perfect since in the end... THe movie was awesome as well.. I hope to see more books of his made into movies.. I will buy them as well if I can. I cant wait to start my next book but cant decided which one to start reading... (show less)

So... every now and again I enjoy reading a love story... is that a crime? I picked this one up because I was intrigued that James Patterson wrote one. This was a very quick and enjoyable read and the characters were, as always in a love story, were equal parts fantsy and realism. Perhaps the best thing about this read is the way the story is revealed. The idea of reading a diary about your estranged lover written from the point of view of their spouse is quite heart-wrenching and imaginative. This alone makes the book worth reading. Perhaps not the best "first" Patterson book, but worth reading. (show less)

    This is love:

I am so glad I read the book before the movie! This was the book that started it all.. James Patterson is such a great author.. Can be Ruthless or sweet!

Wow, I had always compared James Patterson to Stephen King or Tom Clancy for their great mystery thriller- totally not my types of novels but great for films. The lady at Barnes & Noble suggested that I should give this book a try since I do like Nicholas Sparks. These days, I just like reading something funny and silly - just like watching a chick flick.

I felt like I was reading one of Spark’s novels that contain some life lessons in it. In this case, “Everyone should live life as happy as possible, as though it was your last day.” Great story line and plot, still I felt the story could have written a little better. Beginning of the story, you feel sympathy for Katie even though she’s the other woman. As you read the Suzanne’s diary along w/ her, you learned to like Suzanne w/ Matt like Katie did. Of Course, you can already predict that Suzanne will die. I was a bit sad when I heard what happen to Nicholas. I guess life really doesn’t always goes as plan. The end was alright.

=) Now, I need to get back to my silly “Shopaholic” series… (show less)
