    NEGATIVE REVIEW OF POP BOOK:
The Secret...ahhhh. Well, certainly nothing new here. The power of positive thinking-- yes, it's great. The Secret...ahhhh. Well, certainly nothing new here. The power of positive thinking-- yes, it's great. However, this book continually makes direct or implied statements that encourage an unsustainable (immoral?) lifestyle-- you can have anything and everything you want. Secondly, it insists that anyone who does not have everything they want, does not because of their own 'unbelief'. If even claims that people who have experienced some of histories most horrific events where somehow responsible for placing themselves in the way of such terrors (p. 28, through negative thoughts and the law of attraction?). And then less horrific but perhaps more damaging at a personal level, the book suggest that if you are fat, it absolutely because you think fat thoughts.

The power of positive thinking is an amazing things. But this book is a terrible restatement, and it's absolutist claims, I feel, will more than likely complicate and confuse, distract and depress in the long run-- rather than lift up or offer any real hope of progress.

Dan Milman is a much better choice. Practice the life, don't grasp at magic tricks to fulfill your wildest and most selfish dreams. (show less)

  • Absolutely wonderful book... the flow is a bit off; however the many messages come threw with an impact. Possibly life changing depending on if you have been applying The Secret through-out your life and this is just a book that refreshes those natural instincts; or if this is your first glimpse into this manner of thinking - either way I give it 5 stars :-)

I find it really hard to believe that of all the people involved in the making of this book (and movie), not one person stopped to think that maybe there's a much more rational reason than "the universe" or "the law of attractions" is delivering the things you are focusing on. That somehow this magical something-or-other is listening in or your thoughts and delivering them to you. That being said, if you replace "the universe" with "your sub-conscious&quo... (show more)

That being said, if you replace "the universe" with "your sub-conscious" then the book actually has a plausible message. Even a smidgen of actual research would have turned that up(which this book clearly has none, where did they dig up these "experts")
When it got to the chapter on health, I consider this book to be downright dangerous and irresponsible, telling people essentially that happy thoughts can cure all manner of diseases and ailments. The genius of this book is its irrefutable nature. If someone says, "I though really hard about what I wanted and i got it!" You could say, "see, it works." On the other hand, if you don't get what you are thinking, the response is simply, "then you were doing it wrong." (show less)

I liked it, The message for me is "I create my life". I believe in the "Law of Attraction" and see this as the begining.

marketing gimmick. not a book, but a consumer product. I hated it, i find it to be a condensed version of common sense. better to read books with more depth and soul like the vendanta treatise or the art of happiness... and NO you simply cannot attract things into your life... there are lots of forces at play than ' truly believing in it, and removing all doubt.' one needs to address those doubts and stops. One needs to be realistic about their social, political, filial, emotional, psychological climate, before simply 'imagining.' The sad part is that people are unhappy because their goals are not realistic and Ms. Byrne promotes this sort of ' illusionary' thinking, which can cause alot of pain for alot of people. I feel reading ' beyond the secret' is much better, it provides concrete tools for better living. It time we all accept that when we believe in something, we work towards it, and then the result might manifest or it might not, that is not our concern- the gita. (show less)

  • If the book is anything like the movie, then it's a good start for beginners into this new way of thought (which is really the old ways, anyways)

  • Simple, Easy to apply, Very practical.

I believe that there's more to life than just the "law of attraction" - but that being said, this is a simple and yet powerful book which teaches the law in a really effective way.
