*sigh* This book was amazing. There's just something about all of Juliet Marillier's books that I can't get enough of. I think I liked the second book, Blade of Fortriu, better, but this one in particular made me so sad, as it is the final installment of the series, and I hated to see it end. Faolan is one of my favorite characters of all time. Finally, he receives love and happiness in this book, and I don't know if I've ever been so happy for a character before. Eile was the perfect heroine. The things she goes through are so hard and unimaginable that anyone, real or fiction, would have a tough time surviving. But she ultimately does and learns to love and to trust and to hope all over again. Of course, the writing was phenomenal, making me see every passage and scene in my head. Juliet Marillier is just... fantastic. I love all of her books and will read anything she publishes in the future. One of the best writers ever. (show less)

This third and last book in the Bridei Chronicles is for me personally the best. It read much easier than the first two and the story just seems to flow on. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that this book seems mostly centered around Faolan, a characterI liked a lot and who had become dear to me. The whole flow of events just makes you want to keep reading. When putting the book down for a moment, I really had to keep myself from picking it up again immediately. I would not recommend reading only this book though, otherwise you won't have the attachment to the characters, which makes this book just so interesting and hard to put down. In short now: great book and I find it a pity it's over and already miss the characters! (show less)

This was an excellent conclusion to The Bridei Chronicles. I'm so glad Faolan and Eile got their happy ending. So many things happened that I couldn't put the book down. If Ms. Marillier decides to write a fourth book, I'd love it.
