With unraveled embroidery and fraying hems, the Traveling Pants are back for one last, glorious summer.

Lena: Immerses herself in her painting and an intoxicating summer fling, fearing that the moment she forgets about Kostos will be the moment she sees him again.

Tibby: Leaves behind someone she loves, wrongly believing he will stay where she has left him.

Join Ann Brashares's beloved sisterhood once again in a dazzling, fearless novel. It's a summer that will forever change the lives of Lena, Carmen, Bee, and Tibby, here and now, past and future, together and apart. (show less)

I loved three of the stories in this book; Lena's story frustrated me beyond measure. Partly because Kostos, a character I can't stand, came back and Lena left the wonderful painter for him...which makes no sense in my mind. I loved Carmen's story in this book, probably because I love the theatre and Shakespeare (and especially both together). Tibby became slightly annoying in this work. I know that she is afraid that she is pregnant, but she had no right to treat her boyfriend that way. While I have enjoyed reading the adventures of the Sisterhood since I was young, I was glad when I finished reading this last book. I wanted to let the characters go, free to continue on in my mind. I believe that the reason the characters in this last book annoyed me is that I was ready to let the characters get on with their lives. (It might also be due to the movie though. I can't read these books now without thinking of the actresses who played them). (show less)

I really enjoy the Traveling Pants books, tho they are just light and entertaining reading. I have a soft spot for Young Adult Lit. This final book was just as entertaining a read, tho I was unsatisfied with how a couple plot lines wraped up. The characters are rich and fun, as always, which makes up for complexity of plot. The first book is the best. The second is pretty good. The third is just okay. This one picks back up, but it's not the best book I've ever read. If you want a light series that deals very simply with major life issues and makes you feel good in spite of real pain, this might be it.

I like the ending. I have read some criticism of the trip to Greece at the end... some think it's too unrealistic or too cliche or too cheesy... my thought?? If you wanted realistic and serious, why did you... (show more)

I like the ending. I have read some criticism of the trip to Greece at the end... some think it's too unrealistic or too cliche or too cheesy... my thought?? If you wanted realistic and serious, why did you pick up this series? Are you really that bad of a judge of book quality? Yes, it is cheesy, cliche, and unrealistic, but that's why I like it.

My only criticism is that the book handles about every major emotional issue relevant to teenage girls, yet neglects to communicate how serious some of the girls' choices really are. But I would criticize myself with the same thought I had above. As long as you know these things when you pick up the book, you'll like it. Expectations make all the difference. This book was a great way to end the series. I always get sad at the end of a book series, and I had a little bit of an idea how this was going to end because of the movie. But, I was really amazed at the character development. During this book, I hated Carmen, Tibby, and Bee at some point. I hated how Bridget was able to blow off her boyfriend and her Professor's family because she was drawn by desire. I had seen her grow past that over the past two summers. I hated how Bridget was able to blow off her boyfriend and her Professor's family because she was drawn by desire. I had seen her grow past that over the past two summers. I hated Carmen's infatuation with Julia - it was like she didn't have a mind of her own and was swayed only by Julia's opinion. She had been so strong in the past. I hated it when Tibby, who was clearly in love with Brian, blew off the man who loved her and her family more than either of them could express. I didn't want her to live out of fear. But, the processes that they all went through were invaluable. It brought them back where they should be, with one another. It brought them to a deeper revelation of their lives and who they wanted to be. In the end, the pants were gone, but they were all right where they needed to be. (show less)

    the ending

I absolutely love the way the anne brahsares ended
this book. i remember balling my eyes out when lena
and kostos meet and then kostos ends it with her by
saying somethign in greek and then leaving. It was
soo beautiful, how lena spent all day trying to igure
it out, and hen hse finally realized that it meant one
day, i cryed so hard. It kind of leaves you haning but
i feel that brashares diid it in an extraordinay way,
and ill always remember the book for that reason.

SPOILERS! do not read if you haven't read the whole book!

So what did everyone think of how the book ended? I thought it was really well done...I was expecting a really tear-filled, more of a good bye type of ending, but then I realized, just because the Pants disappeared doesn't mean that the Septembers' lives come to a halt. I mean, yeah I'd definitely like to see like...say, a 20 year reunion book sometime.

And did everyone like how the Pants just...disappeared? Any theories on it?
My theory, sort of, is that, logically, being on an island, the Pants could very well have been blown into the water, but it seems odd that none of the girls thought of that. And then the Pants drifted along until another set of friends found them, and the circle continues.

    Anyone else?
