Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret
No one ever told Margaret Simon that eleven-going-on- twelve would be such a hard age. When her family moves to New Jersey, she has to adjust to life in the suburbs, a different school, and a whole new group of friends. Margaret knows she needs someone to talk to about growing up-and it's not long before she's found a solution.
Are you there God? It's me, Margaret. I can't wait until two o'clock God. That's when our dance starts. Do you... (show more)

Are you there God? It's me, Margaret. I can't wait until two o'clock God. That's when our dance starts. Do you think I'll get Philip Leroy for a partner? It's not so much that I like him as a person God, but as a boy he's very handsome. And I'd love to dance with him... just once or twice. Thank you God. (show less)

I can remember reading this book when I was in grade six (1973/74).
I've always loved reading and this is one of the few books I can remember reading when I was young (the Nancy Drew series and Trixie Belden series also stand out).
I just reread it even though it's been a long long while since I've been 11.
It's a quick read and I didn't mind that it's dated in spots (it's pre-computers, they are still playing records, and boys and girls dress up to go to parties). It was still a good story and holds its own after all these years. (show less)

This was a very good book and it's about a girl that has to go through alot of changes. She moves to a new town and has to start sixth grade in a new school and she doesn't know anybody. Margaret's friend Nancy explains to her the Do's and Don't of Sixth grade. Such as, don't wear socks with loafers. I would recommend this book to any girl that is experiencing changes in her life. Also, this book is good for a girl that is going through her first that "time of the month", and crushes, and girl gossip that is happening at this age. The thing that makes this book so unique is that Margaret talks to God throughout the book and asks him questions. She doesn't believe in religion and neither do her parents. This book is also good if any girl has questions and wants to talk to God about her questions. (show less)

Margret is an eleven year old going on twelve who is very confused with her life. She just moved states and has to make all new friends. On the first day she meets Nancy, Nancy tells her all of the Do's and Dont's of the 6th grade. She has to wear her shoes without socks or she would look like a "baby". Margret and Nancy become best friends. On the first day of school they find out that they are in the same class together and with other of her friends. They then make a club called the four pts (The four pre-teen censations). All five of the girls tell eachother everything and do everything together. In the mix of making friends Margret has to try and chose her religion since her parents come from different religions she can chose her own. All of her friends have a different religion so she goes to different churches to try them out. She is very confused with her religion because her Grandma wants her to be jewish, her other Grandparents want her to be christian, and her parents are getting angry at both because they want it to Margrets decisions. She is also growing up and needs to make some of her own decisions. I liked this book because it showed me that even if you do have to leave family and make new friends, things will still come out good in the end. (show less)
