Of Love and Shadows
Isabel Allende transports us to a Latin American country in the grip of a military dictatorship, where Irene Beltran, an upperclass journalist, and Francisco Leal, a photographer son of a Marxist professor together discover a hideous crime. They also discover how far they dare go in search of the truth in a nation of terror . . . and how very much they risk.

It's a hit!

It was the second attempt of reading this. I thought the beginning section was such hard work but didn't feel the rest of the book made up for it.

well written and exciting book. Although it took me a while to get used to the style with lots of adjectives and to get 'in' the story.

I love Allende, She writes so "sugary" (her wordy descriptions) about tragic things. This is a great book for an North American to read as we are so spoiled with our freedoms. We have no idea what it is to fear our government, something a majority if humans experience.
