Upon picking this book, I was expecting a typical dry economics read, but that was quickly rebutted. I had heard of Ayn Rand before but never read any of her material before.
Overall, I thought the collection of essays was superb. I agreed with a majority of the material; from day one in college I learned about the benefits of free-enterprise and entrepreneurship. Ms. Rand's writing style really impressed me. Not only did she argure her points very well, eloquenty, but she used great examples to back them up.
It is ironic how she states that she never meant for "Atlas Shrugged" to be prophetic, however, after reading "Capitalism", it seems that this book was a prophecy.
The inherent flaws of government intervention in the economy seems even more apparent after reading this book. Think about it: in this country we have 10% unemployment, a battered real-estate market, and a dried up credit market. I hope for Ayn Rand's sake that no one blames this mess on capitalism and amasses a group of blind followers; oh wait we do: Michael Moore. (show less)

  • This was an interesting read for me back in college, considering that I was involved in groups that were trying to "make the world a better place" and I was idealistic. I think of the different Ayn Rand books, this was the one that had the most "notes" from me - and generated the most rebuttals. It was an enjoyable read - but again, flexibility, friends, when reading it. You may not agree with it - but you will surely enjoy it.

Worth reading if only for the essay "Gold and Economic Freedom", written by Alan Greenspan before he turned into a globalist traitor. In it, he describes how a fiat money system is the only way to perpetuate the welfare state, and can only lead to inflation that robs the people of all their wealth. He quickly turned his back on such thinking when he joined the New World Order and became Fed chairman.
