P.S. I Love You
2007Oh my god! How sad is this movie?! I really, really loved it though. I didn't realize the cast that it had until it started, but it was good. Not a feel good movie, for sure, I'm pretty sure I sobbed through the whole thing, but at the very least, it ends on a good note. Gerald Butler was brilliant, and Hilary Swank was great. As mentioned throughout the movie, the notion of someone leaving their widowed love one with letters that come to them for a year after they die is morbid. I'm n... (show more)

As mentioned throughout the movie, the notion of someone leaving their widowed love one with letters that come to them for a year after they die is morbid. I'm not sure I'd like that. I'd resent them. But I guess that particular plot point doesn't really contribute to the quality of the movie itself. In all, it actually seems more original, with key differences, to me than your typical sad story. Lots of them follow a certain formula, and I really thought this one was rather unique. In the end, the thought that after such a tragedy, someone can find themselves again, is something we all need to be reassured of every once in a while. (show less)

Taken
2008I have a new respect for Liam Neeson. While he isn't necessarily type-cast, he damn sure isn't the kind of person you'd expect as a former special operative for the government who goes on a rampage when his daughter is kidnapped. He is merciless, and surprised me many times throughout the film, because in general he's usually a much more... well, dull (not him himself, just his characters) personality. And I guess the actual personality in this movie wasn't the most off-putting, but hell, ... (show more)

And I guess the actual personality in this movie wasn't the most off-putting, but hell, some of the things he does. This movie definitely entertains, and while most of it is entirely implausible, it sometimes becomes easily to overlook that because you want him to get her back so badly. Woe betide anyone else who chooses to kidnap this guys daughter. Yeesh. (show less)

Tristan and Isolde (Widescreen Edition)
2006It's predictable, and your run-of-the-mill ill-fated love story about two lovers from different classes and social situations, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. I thought the actors all did a fabulous job; James Franco was especially impressive as Tristan. I've seen him in only three movies total, but all three of those movies have proved that he is incredibly versatile. The only other movie I've seen Rufus Sewell is The Holiday, so it was refreshing to see him not playing a complete jerk. All in all I really did enjoy it. At the very least, the music is worth appreciating, the imagery is beautiful, and the costumes are very impressive. I think it has a little something for everyone. I'm a huge fan of period pieces anyway, and even though the theme of this movie rings true with so many of its genre, it kept me interested the entire time. (show less)
