Knowing
In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsule's contents and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Caleb's father, professor John Koestler, who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the document's chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events -- the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son. When John's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place. With the reluctant help of Diana Wayland and Abby Wayland, the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased author of the prophecies, John's increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster -- and the ultimate sacrifice.

The most redundatn useless movie I have seen in a long time. Humanity is WIPED OUT! Everyone dies, we are all DOOMED! Apart from a acouple of kids I couldn't care one shit about, who get placed on some "Pareadise" by beings who are not explained to us one way or abother.
Basically this movie tells us everyone on this planet, who can not hear the "warnings'' of an unknown entity, who won't tell us their agenda, won't be transported to some castrated world in order to serve as breeding rabiits for the human race.
Oh, and all the efforts of Nicolas Cage to c hange anything, are futile and he and everyone else on the planet will die.
So, that might seem atroistic to you, to me it seems like shit, shit, shit and shit.
In any case, I couldn't care less. Humankind will be destroyed by Islam or a comet anyhow. One more movie about doomsday is fine by me, but I'd like some hope.
This movie has no hope, so screw it. I couldn't care less. (show less)

Knowing is different from your mindless popcorn thrillers because it isn't mindless. It's sometimes thought provoking and triggers a variety of emotions from the viewer. The movie is funny when it needs to be, after having watch a very disturbing scene. The action scenes are amazing, some cringe-worthy, in a good way, actually, because it's not just "Wow. Cool special effects," although there really are some top notch effects, but because they are very hard to watch. The movie reall... (show more)

The movie is funny when it needs to be, after having watch a very disturbing scene. The action scenes are amazing, some cringe-worthy, in a good way, actually, because it's not just "Wow. Cool special effects," although there really are some top notch effects, but because they are very hard to watch. The movie really pushes the PG-13 rating and sometimes pushes it so far and shot so well that I was left speechless. The movie also has a lot of fantastic performances, one from Nicolas Cage, an iffy actor, if you ask me but he manages to pull it off here. Chandler Canterbury, the kid actor one hopes to act well alongside Nicolas Cage, also does a decent job. Rose Byrne finishes off the main cast with an equally well played role. And the movie isn't just about the action either. In some very human scenes, it may strike an emotional cord from some viewers. This is not your usual apocalyptic flick. It has something more, something I cannot reveal without spoiling the movie, including an out-of-the-world ending that will leave some viewers talking. Alex Proyas, again, does not disappoint. There are some fantastic performances and some ingenious action scenes, especially in the way they are shot, along with a very intriguing plot. (show less)

Whatever you have read about the new science fiction thriller “Knowing”, forget it. Most of what has been written about this wonderful film by critics is off the mark. This is an excellent movie—perhaps the best science fiction movie made in recent memory. And if any of those critics have mentioned how the movie ends, well they probably shouldn’t write about film anymore.

“Knowing” takes its time getting to its story. Some may perceive the opening passages as slow; but it all builds to one of the more powerful genre films to be made in a long time. The story begins in 1959 at a new school where a girl named Lucinda Embry comes up with the idea of planting a time capsule for the school’s dedication ceremony. Her class is selected to draw pictures of what they think the future will look like for the future generation of students. Just before the project, Lucinda sees a stranger in the forest and hears what sounds like many voices whispering. She seems to go into a trance; and instead of drawing a picture, she scribbles down a series of seemingly random numbers.

I thought the whole movie was excellent until the end. The end made me regret spending time in the theater and wasting my money. Religious aliens, really?
