As an X-fan this movie was a real disappointment, as all the rest of the so called trilogy.
I`ve read, studied and learned all I could from all the X-lines since I was thirteen, and the announcement of this movie was a real joy. But to see how disrespectful was bryan singer´s adaptation to fans, was a huge down slope for all fans.
* Cyclops is one of the main characters in the comic book, always with the burden of responsibility in his shoulders. But in this movie, they treated him as a spoiled goody boy, that did what he was told. And they gave a whole lot more character portrayal to logan.
* Sabretooth´s amnesia, this guy didn´t look or acted anything like Creed. And when he met wolverine, it´s as if they had never met in the past before. They were together during logan´s time as a govenrment spy with silverfox and maverick. Maybe logan couldn´t remember, bur surely Creed (Sabretooth) did.
* Rogue´s southern accent and personality, was gone. And that was one of her main traits, that made her so cool a character.
* Mystique was rogue´s surrogate mother, when she ran away. And here we have another huge case of amnesia from the both of them, as it seemed they had never seen each other before.
And she looks hotter on comic book, with out all those scales on her body.
* Storm wasn´t one of the first x-men, she came years later with wolverine, colossus, nightcrawelr, thunderbird, sunfire, banshee... as a way to make X-me worlwide.
And many other aweful adaptations, which made this x-movie an insult for the comic fans... (show less)

X-MEN takes place in the near future, as certain humans are evolving into mutants with special powers. In the Canadian wilderness, a young runaway mutant named Rogue (Anna Paquin) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), a bad-tempered, quick-healing mutant with retractable metal claws, are suddenly attacked by the powerful Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his lackeys. Fortunately, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Storm (Halle Berry), students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), interfere and bring them back to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Here Wolverine and Rogue learn more about the conflict between Xavier and the militant Magneto, who wants to power a device that will genetically alter humans, with possibly deadly results. Only Xavier's students can stop Magneto's plans. Director Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) displays his expertise with an ensemble cast, accomplishing a feat by making the first live-action film about an entire group of superheroes. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the ill-tempered Wolverine is dead-on, while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are ideally matched in their Martin Luther King, Jr.- and Malcolm X-like roles. Smart and well-paced (show less)

Watching this again years later, on Blu-ray, I'm reminded of just how much I disliked the movie for how much it changed things. I don't mind the costume changes in the slightest, but so many little things just felt wrong, from the overstacking of background characters to the age changes in others such as Bobby. With a relatively short running time, it still felt long and not the best origin movie for the team either. In some ways its hard to pin down what's exactly wrong with it, but it felt ... (show more)

With a relatively short running time, it still felt long and not the best origin movie for the team either. In some ways its hard to pin down what's exactly wrong with it, but it felt like a combination of a poor story and the wrong director. Lots of good cast members, notably Rogue and Wolverine as well as Professor X, but Jean Grey was all wrong and Sabertooth was completely out of the character that I know. Nevermind the bleah-ness of Toad. I wouldn't mind seeing Marvel reboot this franchise, not that they did the best job with the Wolverine origins movie either. (show less)
