New ways to earn lumber

2:47pm January 27th, 2008

We have introduced some small changes and some new ways to earn lumber.

  • The price of the lumber stack has been reduced-- it is now 200 gold for 2 lumber.
  • You now earn 1 lumber a day. Take note that not logging in for 2 days will not earn you 2 lumber-- you only earn 1 lumber at a time.
  • There are new neutral creeps for you to attack
  • Creeps randomly drop lumber. For a rough indication about 1 out of every 30 creeps will drop 1 lumber.

Temporary Lumber Patch

10:39am January 9th, 2008

We apologize for yet being unable to find an appropriate solution to the problem of earning lumber. In the interim until we work out a better solution, we have added an item in the potions page that will allow you to convert gold to lumber for those who really need it.

New items... LOTS

10:14pm January 4th, 2008

Happy new year... 4 days late! Haha. We have added a whopping 48 new items to the game for you to play with! Watch out for the negative modifiers that some items have though!

New Items!

8:56am December 19th, 2007

We are making a departure from the original game items and introducing some new items (mostly for the lower levels)-- amongst them, our first pair of pants and a new superitem! Expect more items for the higher levels soon.

Regarding the superitem, I would like to stress that the item has been priced in a manner that makes it very difficult to obtain (it is a superitem, after all). This is a step in the direction of making players choose the items they buy, instead of just working to buy everything at once.

Modifications to Ally System

8:27pm December 13th, 2007

We are phasing in the some changes to the allies system:

  • You may continue to form alliances with players from any level.
  • In order to balance the situation of low level players exploiting having many high level allies, we are capping the help a high leveled player provides at 5 levels above a player's level.
  • For example, if I am level 10, and I have a level 40 ally, the level 40 ally functions as a level 10 + 5 = 15.

If you are experiencing unexpected battle outcomes, this might be the cause. The solution would be to try to get more allies as opposed to a few strong ones. Your tavern is a great place to find allies.

New Chat System

10:49pm December 11th, 2007

We have changed the chat system to prevent spam and other doodads. Hopefully it will be more useful all around. You can find it at your tavern page together with a list of commands you can use with the system.

Planned changes, New items

9:34pm December 9th, 2007
  • As planned, gold earned from battles is now 1/4 the player level.
  • Gold from creeping has been increased to make up for this drop.
  • Once u hit around level 20, it is possible for you to battle other players, win gold and buy fatigue potions in a self-sustaining fashion, with extra gold to buy items.
  • We have started hiding alliances that are so weak they're pretty much useless.
  • We are introducing a potion and a scroll costing lumber that some people will find very handy. More items are coming (for gold especially) so hold on tight!

New Resource: Lumber

7:16pm December 8th, 2007

We are introducing a new resource-- lumber . You gain 1 whenever you invite a friend to DoTA. All players above level 1 have been given a 10 lumber bonus to start off.

These are some of the effects we anticipate:

  • Reducing the dependance on gold will add a new dimension to the game.
  • With a more controlled resource than gold, we will be able to roll out way cooler items without them being abused.
  • The nature of lumber will make it harder from players to benefit from having multiple accounts.
  • If you don't have enough friends, don't fret! You can always trade gold-intensive items with lumber-intensive items with other players!
  • We are exploring other ways for players to obtain lumber, so watch this space.

Why lumber? Why invites?

As the game stands right now, everyone in the game is working towards obtaining the same set of items. This is boring because by level 40 everyone has the exact same items. We are trying to change this by creating more items and making it impossible for people to actually buy everything. In order to achieve this, we looked for a way to create a limited resource. After considering our options, user invites was chosen. Using limited resources to choose items will become an important part of the increasing complexity of the game.

New Items!

7:13am December 8th, 2007

We've had a slight redesign of the page, and also, new items have been added to the game! Look for them in the send page.
