| Description: |
Since 2001, GRID Alternatives has been working to bring the power of solar electricity and energy efficiency to low-income homeowners, and to provide community members with training and hands-on experience with renewable energy technologies. We are both a nonprofit organization as well as a certified electrical contractor. Through our Solar Affordable Housing Program, we train and lead teams of community volunteers to install solar electric systems for low-income homeowners throughout California. We currently have offices in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Check out "GRID Alternatives" - the video for more information on who we are, what we do, and how we do it.
What we are Doing: - Since 2004, we have installed 220 solar electric systems for low-income families throughout Northern and Southern California. - These systems are reducing each family’s electric bills by approximately 75% - This translates to a total of over $3.63 million in energy cost savings over the systems’ projected life spans - These systems will also prevent roughly 11,007 tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the next 30 years - This is equal to planting 15,362 trees! - We have trained over 2,200 volunteers on the theory and practice of solar electric installation. How you can get involved: - Spread the word - Invite friends and family to join the GRID Alternatives cause. - Donate your time as a volunteer or make a monetary contribution - Opportunities can be found posted on our website.
