In Germany, the Neubronner family who homeschool their children in the “free” city of Bremen, were allowed to do so last year, only to be fined 4500 Euro (more than R45 000) this year for homeschooling. When the authorities did not find sufficient possessions in their home to be sold in execution of the fine, last week the bank accounts of the family’s small publishing business were frozen.
After the government has realized that it is illegal to freeze the accounts, the accounts were unfrozen again, without informing the family or giving any reasons. Now the family lives in constant fear that their accounts can be frozen any moment. In order to support the Home Schoolers in Germany, the Association for Homeschooling held a demonstration in front of the German School in Pretoria. In reaction to this demonstration, the German Government has increased the fine with another 3000 Euros. The Association for Homeschooling condemn s these actions, which the German government justifies in its quest to prevent “parallel societies” and asserts that the German government is guilty of gross human rights abuses. With this petition, the The Association for Homeschooling would like to put pressure on the German Government to stop the human rights abuses and give parents the freedom to educate their own children. |
