Urban Services YMCA works to develop programs and activities that build family resilience and stability. The communities we serve experience overwhelming risk factors (e.g., violence, substance abuse, poverty, etc.) that cause families to become splintered and routed into services that do not address root causes behind actions. Our organization works to fill this gap and alleviate the stress on the city’s overburdened system of care. Charted in 1995, Urban Services YMCA has grown to provide comprehensive wrap around services including: • Building Futures Mentoring Services that provide individual mentoring relationships for youth displaying signs of depression, withdraw, and issues with anger management. • Mental Health Counseling and Trauma Recovery Services that provide youth and families with free access to licensed therapists who address serious behavioral and emotional issues. • Gang Intervention Programming made possible through street outreach workers provided through the OMI/Excelsior Beacon Center. • Urban Core College Internships that create pathways for afterschool program employment and college credit for students attending San Francisco State University. • Truancy Intervention Services that provide school re-engagement case managers for high school students who have dropped out, or at-risk of dropping out. • Life Skills Training, Job Development, and more for Transitional Aged Youth (ages 16 - 24) living in the OMI. • Family Advocacy, Domestic Violence Counseling, Adult Job Development, Case Management and more provided by staff from our Family Resource Centers in the OMI and Western Addition. • Youth Leadership, Academic Support, Advanced Enrichment Activities and more delivered through the Bayview Hunters Point and OMI/Excelsior Beacon Centers, the OMI Safe Haven, and on-campus afterschool programs at Malcolm X Academy Elementary, Starr King Elementary, International Studies Academy High School, Downtown High School, and Ida B. Wells High School. • College Prep Activities specifically targeting young African American Males. • Structured Recreation, Nutrition Education, and Obesity Prevention Programming throughout our afterschool programs. www.ymcasf.org/urbanservices |
