| Description: |
AIDS affects every household and family in Zimbabwe, and has left almost one million children parentless. Young women and girls orphaned by AIDS are particularly vulnerable. They are the most likely to drop out of school for lack of funds, putting them at heightened risk for contracting HIV. Whereas resources exist to help elementary school orphans, there is very little assistance available to teenaged girls who are orphaned during secondary school.
Tariro provides hope for orphaned girls whose families have been affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. Tariro provides educational support and advocacy by paying the fees necessary for school enrollment, organizing HIV awareness training, and providing educational counseling. By enabling girls to continue with their education and receive a high school degree, Tariro’s work in Zimbabwe allows girls to envision a positive future and fulfill their ambitions. |
