About this Petition:

The Eat the View campaign began making noise for a new White House kitchen garden in February 2008 and the Obamas heard our call! We've left our Facebook petition open for those who might have missed it during our 14-month campaign and still want to sign it as a way of thanking the Obamas and Chef Sam Kass for leading and eating by example.

The Desired Outcome of this Petition:

We'll be taking the 110,000 signatures and thank yous we've collected to the White House on September 10th and will ask Chef Sam Kass to toss them onto the White House compost pile. That we can literally become part of the garden we all helped plant!

To: President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama

We petition that…

you instruct the White House's 13-person grounds crew to plant an organic Victory Garden on the First Lawn with the produce going to the White House kitchen and local food pantries. The White House is "America's House" and should serve as a model at a time of economic and environmental crisis. In setting aside even a small part of the White House's 18 acres for this garden and eating from it, you would not be breaking with tradition, but returning to it (the White House has had organic food gardens before) and leading by personal example on global challenges such as economic security, food security, climate change, health care, and energy independence.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
