About this Petition:

The University of Richmond was contacted by The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)—the nation’s largest animal protection organization—and asked to sign a pledge stating:

“The University of Richmond joins others that have pledged to ensure that no laboratory animals in our care experience severe and unrelieved pain and/ or distress.”

To date, The University of Richmond has not signed this pledge.

To date, The University of Richmond has not signed this pledge.

Tax and tuition dollars should not be spent on research that is causing severe animal suffering and students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni should be given the confidence that the University of Richmond will not allow such suffering. Even though the school may not be currently doing research that causes severe and unrelieved animal pain and distress, they should still adopt the pledge and show their commitment to animal welfare for now and the future.
