  • How do I join a cause?

    You can join a cause in several different ways. You can go to the Causes homepage and use the search function to find causes you may be interested in joining. You can also accept an invitation from a friend to join a cause or click on a link to a cause posted on your friend’s wall. In both of these cases your friend will get credit for recruiting you to that cause.

  • How do I start a cause?

    In order to create a cause, first go to the Causes homepage at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/

    Roll your mouse over "Find Causes" in the blue bar at the top and select "Start a Cause".

    You can then enter your cause's mission, its positions, and add a beneficiary (a US or Canadian nonprofit where you want your donations to go) if you'd like. The next step is to invite all your friends and spread the word!

  • How do I leave a cause?

    You can leave a cause by clicking on “Leave Cause" under the main cause image.

  • How do I post a link, photo, or video?

    Scroll to the Media Board, which is located near the center of the cause page, to add a link, photo, or video. Note: Some causes require administrator approval before a media item is actually posted.

  • How do I start a discussion?

    Scroll to the Discussion Board, also located near the center of the cause page, and click on “Start New Topic.”

  • How do I recruit my friends to a cause?

    Anyone who you invite to the cause and then joins by clicking on your invitation is counted as your recruit. In order to invite your friends, click on the “Invite” link under the main photo on any cause page. You can invite up to 60 people per day. In addition, if someone joins a cause by clicking a link posted on your profile, he or she is counted as your recruit. To post the cause link to your profile, click on the “Share” button on the right-hand side of the cause page.

  • What is an invite pledge?

    When you invite people to a cause, you will be prompted to start an invite pledge. If you click on “Take This Pledge,” you are pledging to invite 100 friends to the cause within the next two days. Since you may only send out 60 invites per day, Causes will notify you when you are free to send more. Your invite pledge will be displayed on the cause page, but only you will be able to see it. When you complete the pledge, we publish a short feed story on your wall.

  • How do I fundraise?

    Any money donated by people you recruit is counted towards your fundraising total.

  • What is a birthday wish?

    A birthday wish allows your friends and family to support a nonprofit you care about in honor of your birthday. Approximately two weeks before your birthday, Causes will send you a notification prompting you to create a birthday pledge. You can choose any cause you belong to that is linked to a beneficiary and encourage your friends to donate a specific amount that you choose. We provide you with a number of mechanisms to notify your friends of your birthday wish and urge them to donate.

  • What is a charity gift?

    A charity gift is a virtual gift that is tied directly to a concrete, real-world impact. When you buy a charity gift, you are able to “give” an icon representing the gift to a friend on Facebook. The cost of the gift goes to a specified good or service provided by the nonprofit beneficiary. For example, the “Bed Net” gift costs $10 and allows Malaria No More to provide one bed net to a child in Africa.
