* FORGE believes in the power of refugees to transform their own lives and the lives of those around them. * There are 1.9 million refugees living in protracted refugee situations. * For these refugees, jobs are scarce, health care is unreliable, education severely limited, and food and water are strictly rationed. * FORGE creates opportunities for African communities affected by war to: o seek education o gain economic self-sufficiency o find solutions to community problems For more information about our results, go to www.FORGEnow.org FORGE provides refugees with health-based, educational, financial and vocational resources to improve their standard of living. In the long term refugees develop leadership, education, and vocational skills that will aid their home countries when they eventually repatriate. In this way, FORGE tackles the root causes of protracted conflicts by helping communities emerge from poverty, fostering peace, and developing future leaders.
This is why I care
I've been so blessed to have been doing this work for the past 6 years now. On my 26th birthday, I would love nothing more than to see FORGE thrive for another 6 more.
In Zambia, $26 equals 130,000 kwacha. 130,000 kwacha is more than the average refugee *family* has to live on each month. FORGE works to change that - sustainably and for good - so that we can all live freely with a shared confidence that our world values the worth of every human being.
A world that works for everyone! It's a simple birthday wish, really :)
