Mission: mothers2mothers' vision is a world in which babies are not born with HIV and where mothers living with HIV live long and healthy lives, caring for their families with hope for the future.

Nearly every minute in Sub-Saharan Africa, a child is born with HIV. Most mothers are unaware or too afraid to access treatment to stop mother-to-child transmission, which is entirely preventable. An entire generation is at stake. mothers2mothers is an effective, sustainable model of care and support that fills the gap in treatment for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS. Stifled by stigma and lost in an overburdened health care system, the needs of HIV+ mothers are specific and crucial. mothers2mothers meets these needs to stop the cycle of infection. mothers2mothers employs HIV-positive mothers as 'Mentor Mothers' - peers who are trained to provide counselling and support to pregnant women on topics of general health care, feeding techniques, safe-sex, disclosure, grief counselling, nutrition and more. Our Mentor Mothers are windows of sisterhood, who by educating new mothers, support them daily as they confront decisions that mean the difference between illness and health. Since it's inception in 2001, mothers2mothers has grown to nearly 600 sites in 7 countries. We employ just over 1500 openly HIV-positive women as our "Mentor Mothers." Our programs have more than 150,000 client interactions per month empowering women to make healthy choices for themselves and their babies.
