Amy Sample Ward's Birthday Wish
I'm turning 26 on December 21!
This year I'm donating to a good cause: E-waste Reuse & Recycling
This is why I'm donating my birthday
This particular cause is something I really care about.

Old computers and other electronics contain numerous toxic materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame retardants, and barium. All of which are toxic to humans, plants, and animals. When people upgrade to newer technology, they don't always know where the old stuff goes. Regrettably, some of it is shipped to developing countries which lack the resources to either repair it or dispose of it responsibly. THE CYCLE MUST BE STOPPED. The Basel Action Network (ban.org) and local organizations such as Free Geek (located in Portland, Oregon and numerous other cities) are committed to making this happen. Free Geek makes every effort to reuse technology that is donated to it and place it in the hands of volunteers, other non-profits, schools, and community organizations which have no or limited access to technology. What can't be reused is RESPONSIBLY recycled to the highest standards. Since 2000, Free Geek (Portland) has placed over 15,000 refurbished computer systems back into the community and responsibly recycled over 2000 tons of e-waste. THANK YOU for supporting our effort. This is why I care
My 26th birthday is coming up and, instead of buying me a gift (not that I was expecting one!), I'm asking that you donate $26 to a cause I really believe in.
Free Geek is one of my favorite organizations (you can see more about why I love them here: http://www.amysampleward.org/200... . A donation to them will go a long way in supporting free technical education, providing computers at no cost to those who otherwise couldn't afford them, community building for immigrant, refugee, disabled, and otherwise non-traditional employees.
Your donation will really make a difference.
Thanks for your birthday wishes and for donating!
I've raised $348 of my $260 goal...
Birthday Greetings

Happy Birthday Amy. Glad to see you more than passed your goal (I'm not surprised), and I bet you'll have a wonderful time in Bruges. I loved it there. When I was there the city had a lot of tourist traffic, I would recommend making time to find somewhere just out of the way where you can sit and watch the people mill around the fairy tale architecture. cheers
