About this Nonprofit

Mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Description: Literature of Disease and Prevention

-Chapters (81) throughout the country deliver this service on a daily basis to the community at large through health fairs, doctors offices, service club presentations, and to the public upon request. This information is also disseminated to families coping with Alzheimer?s disease using many of the same mechanisms. Additionally, this information is disseminated through follow up from calls coming into a chapter?s helpline.
Referral to Health Care Provider

-Chapters (81) throughout the country refer individuals who detail specific symptom concerns back to their physicians for further tests and diagnosis. Chapters will also make referrals to geriatric assessment clinics for diagnosis.
Peer Support

-Chapters provide support groups for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer?s disease, for individuals with Alzheimer?s disease, and for family members. Support groups are a part of the core services provided by all chapters.
Public Education

-All chapters provide education as a part of their core service offerings. Education is conducted through conferences, through professional training, and often in collaboration with other health care education initiatives that may have been started by another agency. Education is extended to community groups, families, businesses, and individuals with the disease.

Health Care Professional Training

-The types of training for health care professionals includes training for long term care workers, nurses, physicians, home health professionals, adult day centers, and hospice workers.

Research Funding

-Chapters all have as a part of our dual mission, research efforts. Chapters who raise money for research send those dollars to the national organization to allow for funding peer reviewed projects in all parts of the country assuming that there is qualified research occurring. Bottom line is that chapters participate and the best research projects are selected at a national level.

Professional Education

-Extending beyond the health care professional training, the chapters also train attorneys, stockbrokers, clergy, and trust officers on Alzheimer?s disease.
Staff

-All 81 chapters are required to have paid staff and are asked to concentrate on four key positions: Executive Director, Program Director, Finance Director, and Development Director. These positions may be supported by various staff including outreach, education, patient services, and administrative staff.
