Mission
The African Well Fund, founded in 2002, grew out of the need for clean drinking water in villages in Sub-Saharan Africa. The AWF is comprised entirely of volunteers that assist in fundraising for the purpose and educating the communities in which they live on the impact of water shortages on the health, welfare and economies of villages in Africa.
Description
African Well Fund was formed in October 2002 by a group inspired by the media coverage of Bono’s May 2002 trip to Africa with then Secretary of U.S. Treasury, Paul O’Neill. Struck by the relatively low cost of building a well and the enormous difference that a well can make in the life of a village, we were convinced that raising the money to build a well was an easily achievable goal. It was from this conviction that the African Well Fund (AWF) was born. The African Well Fund believes that access to safe, consumable water is not merely a basic human need, but a basic human right. Our goal is to raise money for the construction and maintenance of clean water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa
