Mission

The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC) is a professionally staffed outpatient mental health center for children and adolescents who experience psychological, behavioral, developmental, social or family problems. We are dedicated to reducing emotional suffering and dysfunctional behavior and to helping each individual achieve optimal potential.

Description

Since 1954, the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC) has been a highly respected nonprofit mental health resource for area children and families. CGC receives referrals from schools, courts, human service agencies and private physicians. With a clinical staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and marriage and family therapists, CGC provides services annually to over 2,000 children and adolescents in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan Connecticut.

Emergency Mobile Crisis Services (EMCS)

EMCS provides immediate mental health assessment and crisis stabilization services for children and adolescents experiencing serious psychiatric symptoms and severe reactions to a recent traumatic event. With a special focus on youth suicide prevention, mobile services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to stabilize emergencies at home, school or in the community.

Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy (CAFT)

Under non emergency circumstances, the CAFT program provides a broad range of comprehensive individualized mental health assessments and treatment services.

Child Sexual Abuse Response Team (SART)

CGC coordinates an interagency team, integrating criminal justice and protective services investigations, while providing comprehensive services for child sexual abuse victims and non-offending parents.

Community Policing Partnership

This program brings together two groups of professionals, police officers and mental health clinicians, to provide 24-hour outreach and mental health services to child victims and “high risk” children identified by the police.

Other Programs

Other programs provided by CGC include: Intensive Home Based Services, System of Care, Managed Service System, Child and Parent Resource Team, Community Emergency Response Program, Crime Victims Assistance, Community Education and Consultation Services.
