Mission

For over 140 years the ASPCA has been dedicated to guarding the lives of those who have no voice--animals who would otherwise have no one to look after their welfare. The mission of the ASPCA, as stated by our founder, Henry Bergh, is ?to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.?

Description

In New York City we operate one of the area's largest full service animal hospitals, mobile veterinary clinics, an adoption facility, a dog behavior training facility and a Humane Law Enforcement Division responsible for enforcing New York State's animal cruelty laws. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, based in Urbana Illinois, provides a unique 24 hour 365 day a year worldwide emergency telephone hotline, staffed by veterinarians trained in animal toxicology. Other nationwide programs advocate and support animal welfare legislation, provide outreach to animal shelters, and offer education of the public in proper care and treatment of animals through a wide variety of materials, literature and school curriculums. The ASPCA provides ongoing public information through all available media, including its ASPCA Action newsletter, telephone information lines, TV and film productions, and its website ASPCA.org.
