Building Tomorrow (BT) is an international non-profit organization encouraging philanthropy among young people by raising awareness and funds to build and support educational infrastructure projects for vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa.
In short, BT works with students to raise money to build schools in sub-Saharan Africa. BT currently has over 15 college chapters and a partnership with Key Club International, the world’s largest high school service organization. BT currently works in Uganda where we identify areas where there are many vulnerable children with little or no access to a primary school. In these areas, BT purchases a plot of land and, with the help of the local community, constructs a ten-room school. Upon completion of the school, the building is leased to the local government to manage day-to-day operations under an agreement with BT. The Ugandan Ministry of Education covers teachers' salaries and operating costs at each BT Academy. Under the BT model, our chapters (“donor communities”) raise the $45,000 needed to build a school and the local communities contribute 25,000 hours of labor to construct the school. Committees of residents and local leaders are established to oversee the various aspects of project completion and implementation. Today, Building Tomorrow has classroom space for over 1,000 children. We hope to double that number next year as two new academies are currently under construction and two more await groundbreaking, each providing learning space for 325 children.
