Speak Out for Darfur and Chad

1. We must press for more effective peacekeeping presence in Chad and Darfur to protect civilians and allow lifesaving assistance to reach those in need.
2. It is especially urgent that we meet the needs of displaced Chadians because, until now, the world's attention has been focused primarily on Darfur.
3. As the crisis spreads, we must urge the world's leaders to address this crisis in a regional context, and bring security to both Chad and Darfur.

International - International Peace and Security

Refugees International is examining the increasingly perilous situation for 400,000 displaced Darfuris and Chadians living in eastern Chad. They have fled unimaginable atrocities and are living a fragile existence in one of the most remote corners of the world.

On June 12, 2008, rebel forces launched their latest offensive in eastern Chad, adding to fears of new displacement and need. Since 2003, fighting in Darfur has displaced over 2.5 milion and killed up to 400,000. Brutal attacks on villages have spread across the border into neighboring Chad, and attacks on humanitarian workers are threatening the delivery of assistance to vulnerable displaced people.

We must act now to protect displaced Chadians and Darfuris from further harm.
