The Facts:
Over 2 million children, as young as 6 years old, are exploited in the child sex trade around the world today. The problem exists everywhere, including the U.S. Child sexual exploitation is getting worse as people seek out younger girls in prostitution. Due to economic and social pressures, many younger children are forced into the sex market to meet the growing demand of the commercial sex industry. It is estimated that as many as 25% of child sex tourists around the world may be U.S. citizens. What We Do: Conduct Research about child sexual exploitation to keep government agencies abreast of the problem and encourage them to allocate money and manpower to fight it. Inform the US travel industry of how it can help end child prostitution abroad. Educate all US residents through conferences, trainings and outreach efforts about how to protect US children from sexual exploitation and about existing laws against traveling abroad to sexually exploited children in all countries. Advocate for policies to make sure exploited children receive they need to recover from their abuse. Get Involved: Learn More: Join the ECPAT-USA Cause and mailing list. Spread the Word: Hold a meeting at your club, church or school about commercial sexual exploitation of children. Fight child sexual exploitation locally: Start a committee in your locality to focus on ending the local problem of commercial sexual exploitation. Support our work: Send a tax deductible donation to ECPAT-USA. "...the commercial sexual exploitation of children is an atrocity. It has rightly been called the ultimate evil. It denies children their fundamental rights. It has devastating psychological and physical consequences for them. It is a perversion of th natural order -adults should be there to protect and nurture children, not take advantage of their emotionally and physically vulnerable state." - Peter Piot, Executive Director, UNAIDS |
