Indigenous Traditional Owners of Country have been calling for better environmental management of the natural resources of the lands and waters for more than a century. Friends of the Earth Melbourne has been campaigning with the Yorta Yorta Nation for the past 8 years for better environmental and cultural sustainability over Yorta Yorta Country, including the campaign to allow for joint management of (National) Parks between Traditional Owners and the State of Victoria. For the past 2 years Friends of the Earth Melbourne has been working with an Alliance of organisations to achieve these same aspirations right along the Murray and Lower Darling Rivers. This Alliance includes: 1. MLDRIN - the Murray and Lower Darling Rivers Indigenous Nations - confederation which includes the Yorta Yorta, Wiradjuri, Wamba Wamba, Barapa Barapa, Wadi Wadi, and Latji Latji Indigenous Nations. 2. a raft of environmental NGOs (especially NSW National Parks Association, Victorian National Parks Association, The Wilderness Society).
